Police Probe Carjacking, 2 Hold Ups In Robinson Township
ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police say they have made one arrest in a carjacking Wednesday night at the Settlers Ridge shopping plaza.
It is just one of three incidents on Wednesday night in Robinson Township that police are investigating.
In addition to the carjacking, authorities say two other men were held at gunpoint in parking lots and robbed. One of the incidents happened at the Mall at Robinson and the other happened at the Lowe's Home Improvement store.
In the incident at the Settlers Ridge shopping plaza, authorities say a woman was getting into her car in the parking lot when she was allegedly held at gunpoint by two individuals.
Investigators say they demanded her vehicle, a Honda Element; however, she managed to keep her purse and wallet because she had put them in a grocery bag which the suspects let her take from the vehicle before they took off.
Investigators now say they have one suspect in custody in the incident. They also were able to find the Honda in Steubenville, Ohio.
About 20 minutes before the alleged carjacking, police say two men in a white Ford pickup truck are accused of holding up a man in the parking lot in front of the Macy's at the Mall at Robinson.
Officials say they demanded money. One of the suspects was reportedly wearing a monkey mask.
Police are investigating the possibility that the two incidents may be connected.
Meanwhile, before either of those incidents, officials say a man was held up in the parking lot of the Lowe's Home Improvement store in Robinson Township around 6 p.m. No one was hurt in that incident.
Robinson Township police are asking anyone with information on any of the incidents to contact them.
Police are also warning holiday shoppers to be careful and take precautions in the parking lots of local stores.
Police say there are some basics to being a safe holiday shopper:
- Use the buddy system
- Park in well-lit areas and close to the store
- Consolidate packages
- Be aware of your surroundings
