Police Officer From Waynesburg Killed In Texas
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A police officer who grew up in Waynesburg was killed Monday in Texas as he was escorting a funeral procession.
Andrew Rameas, 33, died after police say an SUV turned in front of him and the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the side of the vehicle.
"We were just sick, not only it being Christmas, but Andy was a really good kid," said Greene County Sheriff Richard Ketchem. "He wanted to be a policeman and that was Andy's whole thing in life. He wanted to be a police man."
Rameas graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1996 and worked as a deputy in the sheriff's department for a couple of years. He worked as a police officer in Carmichaels and North Belle Vernon before moving to Texas. He also served in Iraq.
He was killed in Killeen, Texas, but his funeral will be in Waynesburg on Friday, Christmas Eve, at the First Baptist Church in Waynesburg.
Officer Rameas was single and had no children.
