Police March Through Pittsburgh As Part Of Annual Conference
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Police officers from all over the world marched through the streets of Pittsburgh today.
The event was part of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives' annual conference.
Music filled the streets of Pittsburgh today, as local officers joined with others from around the globe for this march.
It was a display of unity through neighborhoods like Homewood and Lincoln-Larimer.
"It's very humbling to the officers who marched in it. It's very humbling to show Pittsburgh and to show our communities that we're with them. We just want them to meet us halfway, so we can all work together," Diane Richard said.
"It's a training conference and what it allows is law enforcement from all over the world actually, we are international, we have some delegates from Mexico, we have some delegates from England, so it gives us a chance to talk, discuss important issues about law enforcement throughout the country," Petersburg, Va. Police Chief John Dixon said.
After the march, people gathered inside Mount Ararat Baptist Church for a worship service.
The service not only honored fallen law enforcement, but provided officers with an important, uplifting message.
"We've been spiritually fed, and that is going to help us do all our jobs and do it much better because we need this. We need to be spiritually fed in the types of jobs that we have," Richard said.
"It's been totally exciting to see how excited they are to be in church and to have an opportunity to worship," Rev. Dr. William Curtis said.
The NOBLE conference moves from state to state each year. Next year's location is Grand Rapids, Mich.
