Police Making Progress In South Hills Pharmacy Robberies
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A thief looking for prescription painkillers is preying on pharmacies in the South Hills.
In late September, $2,500 worth of prescription drugs and syringes were taken from the Lebanon Shops Pharmacy on Mt. Lebanon Boulevard.
On October 9, the same pharmacy was hit again for fentanyl.
"Showed a gun and just said that he was here for drugs and he was not kidding," a man told KDKA-TV.
Fentanyl is a highly-addictive, powerful painkiller 80 times more potent than morphine.
On October 18, four more boxes of fentanyl patches were stolen.
At Asti's Pharmacy over the weekend, someone entered the side door of the building.
"The actor broke through the wall and the alarm went off so the alarm frightened the actor," Allegheny County Police Lt. Jeffrey Korczyk said.
Both the businesses and property managers have increased security systems. Castle Shannon police are patrolling.
"We're making some progress, but we're not ready to make an arrest at this time," Korczyk.
Investigators believe the suspect is a white male, six-feet-two-inches tall with a very thin build. He wears big sunglasses and wraps a shirt around his head to conceal his identity.
