Police Looking At Surveillance Video As Carjacking Investigation Continues
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police in Munhall are looking at surveillance video as they work to identify the suspect wanted in a carjacking.
The man police are honing in on can be seen on surveillance footage pacing outside of a convenience store at the Sunoco gas station just moments before climbing into the backseat of a woman's vehicle.
"She gets out, goes in gets her coffee, comes out; [it's] still dark outside," said Chief Patrick Campbell, of Munhall Police. "He's hiding in the back of her car. She pulls up Duquesne Avenue and he sticks a gun to the back of her head."
According to police, the man then ordered the woman to drive - all the while keeping the gun to her head.
"He said, 'Don't look at me or I'll shoot you,'" said Chief Campbell.
The woman was eventually directed to the PNC Bank on Homeville Road in West Mifflin. Police say the suspect checked how much she had in her account before demanding $500.
"He made her pull up her account balance after which he told her to take out this much," Chief Campbell said.
With cash in hand, the suspect then got behind the wheel before ditching the victim, according to police.
On Tuesday morning, Munhall Police were working with the PNC branch in hopes of obtaining useful surveillance images of the suspect.
Police have been unable to build a good description of the suspect based on the video from the gas station and the victim never got a good look.

"She never looked at him. He told her, 'If you look at me, I'll shoot you.' So she looked down; she looked away. She did not look at him," said Chief Campbell. "He drives a short distance and then leaves her out of the vehicle. And that's the last she saw of him or her vehicle."
Police are still looking for the silver 2005 Chevy Equinox with the license plate GYB-3974.
