Police: Jitney Driver And Passenger Open Fire With Child In Backseat

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Bullets go flying after a jitney driver got into a heated argument with one of his passengers.

Pittsburgh police say it turned violent after both men pulled out guns and started firing, all with a small child in the car.

Police say the jitney driver picked up two men and the child.

The driver and one of the passengers got into an argument in the Hill District.

Words were exchanged between the two and the jitney driver pulled over to let him out of the car.

They both pulled guns and began firing at each other.

The passenger was shot in the chest and fled the area leaving the four-year-old child unattended in the car with the other passenger.

The jitney driver's car was struck multiple times with gunfire as well.

Paramedics took the 22-year-old passenger to UPMC Mercy Hospital where he was listed in critical condition Monday night.

The child was returned to the mother.

The second passenger and the jitney driver were both taken to police headquarters and interviewed by detectives.

Police say the jitney driver does have a license to carry, and the firearm is registered to him.
