Police: Baby Boy Abducted Near Philadelphia Found Safe, Woman In Custody

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- An Amber Alert has been cancelled in Pennsylvania after a baby boy who was abducted Thursday evening near Philadelphia was found safe.

The alert originated from Montgomery County.

Police also say they have taken a woman into custody in connection with the abduction.

According to Upper Merion Township Police, it all started around 5:45 p.m. in the food court area of the King of Prussia Plaza mall.

CBS Philly's Report:

Police say 7-week-old Ahsir Simmons was found about five hours after he was abducted by a stranger.

Police say the woman befriended the boy's family at the mall, and they sat down together in the food court.

When the baby became fussy, police say the woman asked if she could hold him. The mother gave her permission to do so while she took a phone call and dealt with other children in her care. That's when police say the woman walked away with the baby.

Around 10:30 p.m., Upper Merion Township Police announced that a woman had been taken into custody and the baby was located safe, our sister station CBS Philadelphia reports.

The Amber Alert has now been cancelled, and police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time.

Charges are pending against her.
