Police Investigating String Of Brentwood Robberies

BRENTWOOD (KDKA) - A rash of violent street robberies has neighbors on edge in Brentwood.

There have been at least four street robberies within just blocks of each other. Two were in Brentwood, while the others were just over the borough line into the city.

In each case, the robber is described the same.

"It's a light-skinned [African-American] male, medium complexion, thin build with short, braided hair," Brentwood Police Chief Robert Butelli said.

Chief Butelli said the suspect seems to be getting more bold and violent in each attack.

The first incident happened back on June 9 around 2:30 a.m. A 51-year-old woman was walking home from Mooney's Place on Brownsville Road.

"This actor grabbed her from behind, grabbed her hair, threw her down and took her purse. She was not injured in that incident," Chief Butelli said.

The second victim, a 45-year-old woman, was hurt.

Police said she was approached while walking to work around 4:30 a.m. on June 16.

"The suspect come out from behind a building or an alley way on Sankey, grabbed her purse, threw her into the hedges and when she resisted, he kicked her in the face and that resulted in some lacerations to her face and her knees," Chief Butelli said.

The next two robberies took place just over the borough line into the city on Kirk and Spencer Avenues.

Brentwood Police are working with city officers to track down the suspect. They have beefed up patrols and added unmarked units.

"Until we apprehend the suspect, I would recommend walking in pairs or couples and not to be walking in the early morning hours when these attacks seem to be occurring," Chief Butelli said.

Chief Butelli also said if you're approached on the streets, give up what the suspect is asking for, don't try to resist.
