Police Investigating Squirrel Hill Jewelry Store Break-In
SQUIRREL HILL (KDKA) - Police are investigating after a jewelry store in Squirrel Hill was broken into early Tuesday morning.
According to police, the break-in happened around 5 a.m. at Forbes Jewelry in the 5800-block of Forbes Avenue.
It is not known how the suspects entered the store, but it is apparent that they exited by smashing the front door.
The store sells some of the most exquisite stones and settings in the city. Roughly $3,000 to $5,000 was stolen in this incident.
This is the third time the store has been targeted in the last two months.
"I'm mad because people have to work for a living not steal somebody's goods," store owner Ella Livshin said.
The good news is that there were surveillance cameras in the store and those tapes will be reviewed.
"This is a pattern. People run up and down Forbes and Murray and they just run in, rob the place and leave. We need to develop a system where one owner calls this person or maybe the corners help each other so they can see which way somebody goes. But, there has got to be an alert system that we have to work on in the neighborhood so that our stores don't get robbed this much," City Councilman Corey O'Connor said.
Despite being broken into, the store was able to get new glass on the door this morning and they are open for business.
