Police Investigating South Side IBEW Break-In
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) - Police have released surveillance video from a break-in at a local union building.
Investigators are trying to figure out why the suspect went through all the effort for nothing more than a tablecloth.
The break-in happened early Tuesday morning at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Building on the South Side.
Investigators are still trying to determine the identity of the man, but there's a good shot of his face in the video and police believe someone may recognize him.
"Although the video doesn't show it, the actor used a garbage can to smash out a side window, then he makes entry into a vestibule," Sgt. Kevin Gasiorowski said.
Several surveillance cameras captured the man in the act around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. He appears to be shirtless and staggering in the video.
"He spends approximately 15 minutes inside the building and it appears all he took was a tablecloth," Sgt. Gasiorowski said. "He appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of some substance. Once he was inside, it looks like all he took was something to cover himself up."
Additional camera images that were not released show the man pulling linens out of the closet and putting the tablecloth over his head and body.
One union worker described the suspect as walking around the hallways like a ghost.
Police said he simply left the building with nothing but that tablecloth and are still trying to determine if that's all he was after.
Police said when they catch this man he'll face burglary charges.
