MIDLAND, Pa. (KDKA) - Two people were shot early Tuesday morning in Midland, Beaver County.

Midland Police were called to a home on Virginia Avenue, around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The initial report was for a woman who'd been shot multiple times. When officers arrived, that's when they learned a man, had also been shot.

Midland Police Chief Keith McCarthy told KDKA's Lisa Washington, investigators believe the shooting happened inside the home. Detectives and police were on the scene for several hours, searching for evidence.

"It happened inside the home we believe," said Chief McCarthy. "Right now, it's an ongoing investigation."

The shooting victims are a woman, who was shot in her wrist and thigh, and a man who was shot in his hand.

It's not known if the victims lived at the home.

Investigators were looking at a white car parked outside the home.

"The car does have blood spatter on it," Chief McCarthy said.

Police say the woman who was shot, ran outside to get help.

"I'm not sure if she didn't have access to her phone, but went to a neighbor to phone for medical assistance," Chief McCarthy said.

Midland police had to obtain search warrants before going inside the home. The Beaver County assistant district attorney was also on the scene, talking to investigators.

"That's fairly standard protocol. In any shooting, our Beaver County D.A.'s office usually assists the local police municipalities," Chief McCarthy said.

Police don't believe the shooting was the result of a home invasion. The investigation is a priority for the department.

"We have every officer in the department either at the scene, working at the station or on their way to the scene," Chief McCarthy said.

Police have not named a suspect in the case.
