Police Investigating Murder After Body Found In Westmoreland Co.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a murder in Westmoreland County.

Neighbors and relatives began worrying about 52-year-old Angela Cavalero last week, after she never responded to calls at her Locust Street home in Laurel Mountain Borough.

"The family had been trying to contact her, and they were worried they hadn't been able to get a hold of her," said Jason Macioce, a neighbor. "They stopped by, the door was locked."

Ligonier Police confirmed the family's worst fears Friday night when they found her body inside the home.

"As they went through the house, they found a female victim deceased in one of the back rooms," said Police Chief John Berger.

Macioce remembers hearing gunshots around the same time she disappeared.

"On a Tuesday, this week, was taking out trash, and about 7, 7:30, we heard about 10 gunshots," he said. "Around here, that's not unusual to hear gunshots; we live near Rolling Rock and we have hunters, but at 7:30 at night, it's very unusual."

Police are now treating the case as a homicide, and they're looking for the man who shared the home with the victim.

"We do have a person of interest that we're not going to mention, but we would like the public's help," said Chief Berger. "He's driving a 1995 Mercury, navy blue in color. It's a large car."

The car also has a number of religious stickers or bumper stickers on it. It has the license plate number of JDT-7999.

So far, the coroner is not saying how Cavalero died.

Some neighbors think the man considered a person of interest in the case is dangerous.

"I stayed up all night last night knowing he hasn't been caught yet," said Macioce. "My wife was scared, so a lot of people were up last night watching their doors."

"If he's the person that did these acts, I would have to agree with the individual who said he's dangerous," added Chief Berger.

Ligonier Police are continuing to investigate.
