Police Investigating 4 Area Gas Station Robberies
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Four gas stations were robbed across the Pittsburgh area in less than four hours Thursday morning.
According to police, the first incident happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Sunoco in East Pittsburgh.
Police say two men stormed into the store wearing black, hooded-sweatshirts, camouflage masks and gloves.
One man guarded the door, while the other approached the counter with a large handgun and a backpack.
He demanded cash, but took off before getting any after seeing the clerk hit the emergency button.
The entire robbery was caught on surveillance tape, which has been turned over to Allegheny County Police.
Police in Bellevue reported a similar situation at the Shell Pit Stop.
They aren't saying how much money was taken, but they recovered surveillance footage that was turned over to Allegheny County Police as well.
More flashing lights lit the parking lot of the A-Plus Sunoco in Millvale.
Again, two men matching the same description went in, flashed a gun and asked for cash.
It's not clear how much, if any, they got.
Also early this morning, police responded to a Cogo's on the South Side. They have not determined if this robbery was related to the other three, but say it happened in the same timeframe.
All four robbery investigations have been turned over to Allegheny County Police.
Police have interviewed clerks at each of the stores. They are now reviewing and comparing the surveillance video and actively following up on leads.
