Police Investigating 2 Fayette Co. Daytime Burglaries
FAYETTE CITY (KDKA) – Police are investigating two Sunday afternoon burglaries in Fayette County.
According to police, both incidents happened Sunday night between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in Fayette City.
The first incident happened on Market Street when the suspect walked up to a home and knocked on the door.
After no one answered the door, the suspect entered the home through a window and was confronted by the homeowner. The suspect then left without incident.
"Everybody's upset," Wilma Gargan, a neighbor, said. "This is in the middle of the afternoon when the Steeler game's going on."
Minutes later, the suspect knocked on a door to a home on Peach Street. Again, the suspect entered the home through a window when no one answered the door.
Tyler Steeber, 13, says he was in his bedroom when he heard a loud crash and then footsteps upstairs.
He locked himself in a bathroom and called his parents and 911.
When the burglar asked if anyone was home, Steeber said, "Yes," scaring the burglar away.
His uncle rushed over to the house.
"We walked into my parents' bedroom and the air conditioner was sitting on the floor and the window was open," he said.
The suspect stole a laptop.
The suspect is described as being a white male in his 20s. He is about 5-feet-7-inches tall with a thin build, short dark hair and a beard.
He was last seen wearing a black military-style hat with a T-shirt and long pants and may have been driving a silver SUV.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
