Police Investigate Stolen Credit, Debit Card Information In Penn Hills
PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- Police in Penn Hills are investigating how people's credit or debit card information was stolen.
In the last few days, 10 to 12 people have come forward to say they've become victims, according the chief of police.
He says they're looking to see if it could have happened at some gas stations in the area, but it's unclear if it was when victims bought something or used an ATM.
And not all of the victims even went to the same station.
The chief says two or three victims report ATM withdrawals from their accounts being made in Squirrel Hill.
Caitlin Driscoll, from the Better Business Bureau, says when it comes to theft, credit cards are always safer to use than debit cards.
However, these victims should not be on the hook for fraudulent charges if they catch it in time.
"The amount of liability largely depends on how long it takes for you to report the theft," said Driscoll. "So for example, if you notice a fraudulent card on your debit card within 60 days of receiving your statement, you're not liable for any charges."
Penn Hills Police wonder if more victims will come forward in the coming days.
