Police Investigate Second Child's Sexual Assault At Western Psych

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For the second time this month, Pittsburgh Police are investigating a reported sexual assault that allegedly took place at Western Psych.

Nicole Corle of Monessen says her 7-year-old son with autism was admitted to Western Psych last Friday.

She says she found out Monday that her son was inappropriately touched by another boy at the Oakland facility.

UPMC released a statement saying they notified Corle within two-and-a-half hours of them learning of the incident.

"We take any allegation of harm very seriously, with safety at the forefront of care for our patients," part of the statement said.

Holding back tears, Corle told KDKA-TV News, "when I got notified, I collapsed on the floor, I couldn't stop shaking."

"I thought I was a bad mother, because I sent him there, and he got hurt," she said.

The hospital says it is conducting its own internal investigation.

The statement released by UPMC also says it's possible that some children receiving treatment at the facility "misunderstand the boundaries of appropriate physical conduct and may be impulsive."

Earlier this month, a 14-year-old boy at Western Psych was charged as a juvenile after police say he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl in a children's playroom.
