Police Investigate Overnight Shooting At South Side Club
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An overnight shooting at a South Side nightclub that sent one man to the hospital remains under investigation by police.
Now, the city councilman who represents the South Side says he wants the nightspot closed down.
Police say the victim was shot inside the District 3 club located in the 2000-block of East Carson Street around 12:30 a.m.
Authorities say the victim, identified as 24-year-old Charles Anger, suffered a gunshot wound to the back. City paramedics took him to a local hospital for treatment.
"It's not the first time that a shooting has occurred at District 3," said Pittsburgh City Councilman Bruce Kraus.
Councilman Kraus is angry because he says the violence continues in a community that's much more than an entertainment district. He says District 3 continues to have problems even though it has a different name and owner.
"Since the day this place opened, it's been the poster child for bad bars," said Kraus. "It's been chronically problematic; it's been listed on the nuisance bar watch list a number of times."
Police are looking for three men who reportedly drove away from the scene just after the shooting. No information is available on the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
Meanwhile, Councilman Kraus says he's had enough and plans to take action against the nightspot Monday morning.
"District Attorney Stephen Zappala has been a very good friend to my office regarding this situation," he said. "I will be making a formal request Monday morning to shut down District 3 once and for all."
Management at District 3 had no comment other than to say Councilman Kraus has a right to complain. Meanwhile, the shooting remains under investigation.
