Police Investigate Hit & Run After Discovery Of Body

McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run accident after a man's body was found in the middle of a street overnight in McKeesport.

The victim was discovered in the 600-block of Eden Park Boulevard near Cal's Cantina.

According to police, he was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle around 2:45 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allegheny County homicide detectives say they have eyewitness accounts and plaster casts of tire prints that may have come from the vehicle involved.

Authorities plan to look at surveillance video from Cal's Cantina, which is across from where the body was found and possibly within visual distance from where the man was hit.

"We did recover some video in the area; however, we're not releasing that at this time," said Lt. Andy Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police. "That's still being processed, so if and when it's necessary, we'll release it."

Officials have not released the victim's identity.

However, they have released a description of the vehicle they are looking for in the incident.

Investigators are searching for a maroon-colored full size SUV or van with damage to the front end. It's described as having a broken headlight and fog light on the passenger side.

"We do have information about a vehicle seen in the area at the time," said Lt. Schurman. "The descriptions we received were a full-size SUV or van, maroon in color, it would have front-end damage and that would be a broken headlight, a broken fog light and a broken bumper. That would all be on the passenger side of that vehicle."

Allegheny County homicide detectives and McKeesport police are continuing the investigation.

Anyone with information on where the vehicle is located is being asked to contact Allegheny County police at 412-473-1300.
