Police: Husband, Wife Dead In Westmoreland County Murder-Suicide
SALTSBURG (KDKA) -- A husband and wife were found dead in Westmoreland County, and investigators say it is the result of a murder-suicide.
Patricia A. Monk, 54, and Gregory Monk, 58, were both pronounced dead at their home on Forest Drive in Saltsburg.
Documents released by the Westmoreland County Coroner indicate Gregory Monk shot his wife in the head just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning before turning the gun on himself.
Ron Comer lives right down the road from the couple.
"When I'd see him out, we'd talk, or I'd be in the yard, he'd come up and talk," said Comer. "He'd come up, give our horse apples, the wife would give the horse carrots. They were just good neighbors."
For Comer, his neighbor's home is now a visual reminder of the tragedy. He says he'd like to see it torn down.
Troopers say after likely shooting his wife, Greg called one of his stepsons.
"Basically seemed hysterical, and that's the reason why the one son had responded to the house, to check on the well-being of his parents. He had a feeling that there was a possibility that something tragic might have happened," said Trooper Stephen Limani, of Pennsylvania State Police.
Comer knew Greg for a long time. He says Greg helped him get the house he now lives in. If there were problems in the house, Comer said he didn't see any red flags.
"Not at all, not at all, whatsoever," said Comer. "That's what I think the shocking part is."
Patricia leaves behind three children and Greg had one.
State police continue to investigate and try to find the motive. Preliminarily, police say there appeared to be no financial or violence problems.
Autopsies were performed Thursday.
