Police, Family Seek Answers In Unsolved Knoxville Homicide

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The victim was deaf and speech impaired, but his mother says that never prevented him from leading a relatively normal life, until he was gunned down outside her home last September by a rifle bullet.

Randy Lewicki, 49, was shot in the 100-block of Jucunda Street on Sept. 20 in Knoxville.

Police say they are still looking for a suspect, who is described as a young black man with a thin build and wearing a white t-shirt.

Nancy Lewicki told KDKA-TV Wednesday night: "My son was deaf, but he got along with everybody - people who could hear normally and deaf people as well."

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti reports:

Lewicki said she wants her son's killer off the streets before he murders someone else.

"When police arrived on the scene of the shooting, they found the victim on the ground near the front of the steps [of his mother's home], and we think someone approached him with a hunting rifle," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus said.

Police found a rifle in the 100-block of Rentz Way, not far from the scene of the shooting.

Richard Lewicki, the victim's brother, said, "We need justice, not only for our family, but for the entire neighborhood as well."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers at 412-255-8477.

There's a reward of up to $1,000 for an arrest and conviction.
