Police: Drunk Driver Hit Trooper's Car

WHITE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An Indiana County man is facing charges after he allegedly slammed into the back of a state police cruiser while "highly intoxicated"; and state police say the suspect had two young children in the car with him at the time.

Police arrested Daniel Nickerson, 38, of Penn Run last night after the incident on Rose Street in White Township.

According to authorities, Trooper Benjamin Frantz was returning to his vehicle after a traffic stop shortly before 7 p.m. when Nickerson drove into the police car.

A short struggle ensued before Trooper Frantz managed to take Nickerson into custody.

The trooper then discovered two young boys, ages 5 and 2, were in Nickerson's car.

Nickerson is now facing charges including DUI and endangering the welfare of children.
