Police Checking Leads In Penn Hills Fatal Shooting
PENN HILLS (KDKA) – Police may have received a valuable piece of information in their investigation of a fatal shooting in Penn Hills.
Todd Mattox Jr., 28, was shot and killed outside the Leechburg Garden Apartments Monday night.
Witnesses said they saw a white car leaving the complex at the time of the shooting.
"The only thing people heard were the shots being fired. By the time they looked out of their windows, a vehicle was seen leaving the area. Whether it was involved with the shooting or not, they're still not sure but that was the vehicle seen leaving the area," Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said.
That car may have turned up in Wilkinsburg hours later.
According to sources, a white car was found on fire on the 1500-block of Hill Avenue around midnight.
KDKA-TV has learned that the car was towed to Culgan Towing and is being kept in a garage for investigators.
Workers said the car was badly burned both inside and out. The car also has out-of-state license plates.
"There was a white vehicle seen leaving the scene of the shooting and there was one burnt in Wilkinsburg. Now, the county is investigating that to determine if that could be the same vehicle," Chief Burton said.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday and Mattox was found dead in the parking lot.
Police do not have a description of a suspect and anyone with information is asked to call police.
