Troy Hill Police Chase Suspect On The Run Again
TROY HILL (KDKA) - A police chase and crash that seemingly ended when the suspect was taken into custody is not quite over.
After the alleged car thief was taken to the hospital, he somehow got away and is still on the run.
It was 5 a.m. when the suspect stole an Access car off the lot at the Comtran Transportation Dispatch Center in McKees Rocks.
The driver started the vehicle and went back into the Dispatch Center briefly. During that time, the suspect jumped in the car and took off.
Two hours later in Troy Hill, the police chase seemed to come to a crashing end on Lowery Street.
"It sounded like a bomb going off," Joyce Ruckert said.
Investigators said 52-year-old Michael Evans was behind the wheel when he hit the wall at the end of the street.
"When I did see the guy upon emerging, he didn't have a nose anymore. His nose was completely caved in," Ruckert said.
Police were able to track Evans to Troy Hill because each of the Access vehicles was equipped with GPS.
Paramedics rushed him to Allegheny General Hospital with severe facial injuries. However, police didn't make the trip.
With multiple agencies involved in the theft, pursuit and crash, it appears that all involved thought it was the other department's prisoner.
Seeing a chance to take off, Evans left in hospital garb with two IVs attached and is on the run once again.
When he his finally charged, Evans will face numerous counts from multiple jurisdictions to include charges of fleeing and eluding police in addition to car theft.
