Police Bust Uniontown Burglary Ring
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Police in Fayette County say they successfully broke up a burglary ring.
Investigators say several homes were broken into in the Uniontown area over the last six months, and that some of the victims didn't even realize they had been targeted.
Many were unaware that items were missing from their homes.
The person allegedly heading up the theft operation has been identified by investigators as 28-year-old Daniel Beck of Uniontown.
"We did basic police work, knocked on the door and asked to talk to him," said Lt. Tom Kolencik, of Uniontown Police.
Police are now going through all the evidence they seized, trying to track down the items' owners.
They've released photos of the items as well, hoping that the owners will recognize their things.
"Uncovered jewelry, cameras, bow and arrows; instruments of a crime - bolt cutters, gloves, bookbags, all indicative of a burglary," said Lt. Kolencik. "The stuff we did recover was stuff a pawn shop didn't take."
Police say Beck also took officers on a tour of the alleged crime spree.
"We put him in a patrol car and he pointed to 15 homes in the city and the township," Lt. Kolencik said.
Beck is facing a long list of felony theft charges.
Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing. There are still a few persons of interest out there who may be involved.
Police say the best way to keep from becoming a victim is be proactive, keep your eye out for anyone unusual in the neighborhood and give the police a call.
