Police Breakup Large Fight At Perry High School
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Dozens of police officers responded to a large fight this morning at Perry High School involving around 20 students.
Police with the Pittsburgh Public School District called in Pittsburgh Police officers as back-up during the incident.
The brawl reportedly began while the students were taking their Keystone Exams, which are state-mandated tests at the end of school terms to assess various subjects.
The fight, involving at least 20 students, broke out in the gym or community room.
According to a school spokesperson, it started over some bad blood in a North Side neighborhood Wednesday night and spilled over into school hours today.
Officials say two students started the fight and then other students jumped in.
Many parents were showing up at the school to check on their children.
The father of a freshman and junior, who did not want to be identified, said this is not a rare occurrence at Perry High School. He says many of the problems stem from the individual neighborhoods that are funneled into the high school.
One student injured himself when he rammed his fist into a wall or window.
No other injuries were reported.
School district police continue to investigate.
