Police: Boy, 2, Inside Vehicle As Mother Overdoses On Heroin
INDIANA (KDKA) – A woman is facing charges for overdosing on heroin while driving a vehicle around with her young son inside in Indiana County Monday afternoon.
Police were initially called to the intersection of Water and North 4th Streets in Indiana Borough for a report of a woman that was incapacitated and slumped over her steering wheel.
"Drugged drivers are a major problem around the Commonwealth right now," said Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty. "Basically, we had an individual operating a car. She passed out as a result of heroin at a stop sign."
When police arrived around 4:25 p.m., they determined that 26-year-old Auriahna Price had overdosed on heroin while at a stop sign. Police also found a 2-year-old boy inside the vehicle.
Let's say she passed out, her foot comes off the brake, and the car drifts into and intersection," Dougherty said. "We're fortunate someone wasn't hurt here."
Price was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently being held in the Indiana County Jail.
Price is facing a list of charges including, DUI, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct.
Her son was not hurt and is now in the care of family members.
The children are always the innocent victims, whether they're in a car or drug house. Unfortunately. we see it every day," said Dougherty.
