Tow Truck Driver Found Dead In McKeesport, Foul Play Not Suspected
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Authorities responded to an active scene in McKeesport early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 4:45 a.m., McKeesport Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Monongahela Boulevard in a response to a 9-1-1 call about a man under a tow truck.
A 42-year-old male had been struck by a tow truck, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was later identified as Andrew Sester.
Detectives from Allegheny County Police's homicide unit responded to the scene.
The investigation determined that the driver worked for International Recovery Systems.
He arrived at an address on Monongahela Ave to repossess a pick-up truck.
After he removed the truck form the property, he stopped a short distance away to make the tow secure and alert his dispatch center.
The dispatch center would then alert the local police that the repossession had occurred.
After a brief period, the dispatch center could not get in touch with the driver and sent another driver to check on him.
That driver arrived and found the first driver pinned under the rear wheels. He summoned paramedics and moved the truck.
"It appears, that he did not have his tow truck transmission in park and during the course of his movements around, the two truck rolled back and pinned him underneath the two tires," said Inspector Andrew Schurman, Allegheny County Police.
Foul play is not suspected.
Police say it was another truck driver who found the man and called 911.
It happened right in front of Andrea Gray's home along Monongahela Avenue.
"That's horrific. So very sorry for their loss," said Gray.
