Police Arrest West Mifflin Man In Bicyclist Stabbing On South Side
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh police say they have arrested a West Mifflin man in connection with a brutal attack in Pittsburgh's South Side last month that left a bicyclist critically injured.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. back on Sept. 5 as the victim was climbing up city steps heading towards Josephine Street.
According to police, 21-year-old Anthony Scholl of West Mifflin was arrested Thursday afternoon at Pittsburgh Police Headquarters after being questioned about the incident.
Police say Scholl is "currently incarcerated for an incident in West Homestead where he has been charged with lighting his parents' house on fire."
Investigators say they are also processing Scholl's vehicle for evidence.
The bicyclist, Colin Albright, suffered a spiral gash down the back of his head, a three-inch deep wound in his shoulder and a throat slash that stretched nearly ear to ear in the incident.
Just moments after Albright rode in front of a driver at the South Side end of the Hot Metal Bridge, police say surveillance video showed the suspect following Albright - who had hoisted his bicycle onto his shoulders - up a flight of city steps.
The surveillance video, according to police, also showed the suspect running back to the bottom of the stairs and getting into a vehicle that was parked at the bottom of the stairs.
Scholl is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail and police say "he will face current charges relating to the assault."
