Police Arrest Truck Driver Wanted For Hitting 2 Motorcyclists
NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- Police have arrested the driver of a pickup truck accused of hitting and injuring two motorcyclists in North Huntingdon Township.
Brian Schlagel, 39, was taken into custody on Wednesday.
He is facing three counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
The accident happened at Main Street and Route 30. Officials say the pickup truck crashed into the two motorcyclists, throwing them from their mangled bikes.
North Huntingdon Police said after the impact, the driver got out of his vehicle before driving away.
"Apparently looks at the victims, one's laying on the ground, the wife is right beside him. He gets back in his truck and he decides to flee," said Lt. Rodney Mahinske, the acting chief of the North Huntingdon Police Department.
Police say witnesses tried to keep the driver from leaving the scene; one was almost hit by the pickup truck in the process. But they managed to get the vehicle's registration, helping investigators to identify the suspect.
