Police Arrest Suspect In Lawrenceville Home Invasion
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police have arrested a man wanted for a violent home invasion in Lawrenceville.
Timothy Lau was arrested Thursday evening in Garfield.
Lau is accused of attacking an 89-year-old World War II veteran during an attempted robbery earlier this week.
According to detectives, Lau is accused of breaking into the elderly man's home and knocking him down early Tuesday morning in the 43rd Street and Butler Street area.
The victim briefly pointed a snub nose revolver at Lau. However, authorities say Lau snatched the gun away from the man before any shots were fired.
Police say a number of tips from the public helped them locate Lau.
From the tips, police say they were able to put together a vehicle description and began tracking Lau.
"We have received a number of tips as to this guy's location," said Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Mike Pilyih. "He was pretty much mobile all day in a car, traveling from one area of the city to another and we kind of had a surveillance going on him all day."
He was taken into custody without incident.
Lau is currently in the Allegheny County Jail facing felony charges of theft, burglary and two counts of robbery.
