Most Wanted Fugitive Arrested After Attempting To Run Over Police Officer
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One of Allegheny County's most wanted fugitives was arrested Tuesday night in Clairton.
According to the sheriff's office, Leland Boyd Jones, 23, of Clairton, was arrested at an apartment in the 300-block of St. Clair Avenue.
On Monday, a Clairton Police officer was directing traffic, saw Jones driving a pickup truck and attempted to pull him over. However, Jones allegedly sped up and nearly hit the officer.
A brief chase ensued, but Jones ditched the vehicle and got away on foot.
On Tuesday, police tracked Jones to the apartment on St. Clair Avenue. As they approached, they saw Jones on the back porch. Jones dropped something and ran back into the apartment.
Police breached the door and Jones tried to get away by jumping out a window onto the first floor roof.
Officers followed him out the window, where Jones continued to resist arrest. As a result, officers used a Taser to subdue him.
Officers found a firearm in Jones' possession along with roughly 300 stamp bags of heroin. Police also found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Jones was initially wanted for failing to appear in court for two separate incidents. In April of 2014, Jones was arrested on weapons and drug charges.
He was scheduled to appear in court on March 2, 2015, but failed to appear.
He also failed to appear in court on charges after fleeing police while riding an unlicensed motorcycle.
For his actions over the past two days, Jones is now facing additional charges of aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding police and recklessly endangering another person. Additional drug charges and weapons violations were also filed.
Jones is being held without bond in the Allegheny County Jail.
