PNC Park Named America's Best Ballpark By TripAdvisor
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Opening day is April 1 at PNC Park, but the Pirates already have reason to cheer.
The world's largest travel website, TripAdvisor.com, has ranked America's top 10 ballparks, and the hometown field is number one.
"I've been to a lot of ballparks around the country," a Pirates' fan from Ross Township says, "and I think PNC is definitely in the top. It's small, intimate."
The TripAdvisor website had high praise for what it called the park's "intimate setting, spectacular views and sight lines."
If you're on the city side of the Allegheny River, looking toward PNC Park, that's quite a view. But if you're seated in the park, looking back toward the city, that's even better. There's not another ball park in America that can match a view like that.
"Not a bad seat in the place and it's very nice," another fan says. "I like the statues as well. It's a cool part of Pittsburgh."
Jack Hunt, lead singer for "Johnny Angel and the Halos," agrees.
"Everything's right here," he says. "I mean, Pittsburgh's a baseball town, it's a great city, it has the culture and the spirit, so yes! And this ballpark? Look at it! There's not one like it anywhere."
TripAdvisor even had praise for what it called "great food and beer selections."
But one fan tells KDKA there's one area open to improvement.
"It is a great ballpark," he says. "I hope they can get a good team to go along with it."
