PLUM BOROUGH (KDKA) -- A teacher in the Plum Borough School District will stand trial on charges he sexually assaulted a child.
Louis Thon waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday morning.
He's accused of assaulting a 13-year-old boy two years ago.
The Plum School District says Thon was a long-term substitute teacher, a Kelly Educational staffing employee, and when they learned about the accusations, Thon was immediately escorted off campus.
The boy told police he and Thon met online and had sex at his home.
At the time, Thon was 22. The district says the alleged encounter took place before Thon came to work in the district.
"At this point, we're investigating the allegations. What we know so far is this has nothing to do with the school district," defense attorney Robert Crisanti said. "So unlike those other teachers that were involved with their students, that's not the case here."
Just three years ago, three Plum teachers were sent to prison for having sex with students. A grand jury report found fault with how the district handled the scandal.
