Players Vote Heinz Field Turf Worst In NFL
DALLAS, Texas (KDKA/AP) — The grounds crew at Heinz Field might not appreciate a survey released by the players' union on Thursday.
The survey asked 1,619 players to list their favorite fields to play on, and Heinz Field was the least favorite among those surveyed.
Players were asked to evaluate the fields on a scale of three points for top choice, two for second and one for third. Only 12 Steelers chose Heinz Field as one of their top three choices.
The last time the survey was conducted in 2008, Heinz Field was voted as the worst grass field in the NFL.
The field was re-sodded twice in the last two months. Once after the Pennsylvania high school football championship and after the NHL's Winter Classic.
After Heinz Field - Oakland, Chicago and Miami were at the bottom of the list in the grass field category.
The Arizona Cardinals stadium was voted the best grass field for the second straight survey.
The survey also said 69 percent of players prefer to play on grass, and an overwhelming majority believe artificial turf contributes to more injuries and shortens their careers.
