Plaxico Burress To Meet With Steelers
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- KDKA-TV has learned former Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress is coming to Pittsburgh to meet with the team.
Burress was a favorite receiver of Ben Roethlisberger before he left for the New York Giants where he became a Super Bowl champion and caught the game-winning TD pass to end the perfect season of the New England Patriots.
Mike Tomlin is known to have an open door policy with players and the Steelers believe this is worth the effort to find out if it could work.
But the Steelers are not the only team interested in Burress. His other former team, the Giants, have also shown considerable interest.
Reports in New York indicate they might be willing to sign him to a two-year $10 million deal.
Burress has not played football in two-and-a-half years after being convicted on gun charges in New York.
He's older, but in good shape.
KDKA's Bob Pompeani saw Burress last week while he was in Miami and asked him if he would be interested in a return to Pittsburgh. He said, "Absolutely" if it all worked out.
