Planning To Watch Fireworks In Pittsburgh? Come Early
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- North Shore, Mt. Washington, Downtown, West End Overlook are all popular places to take in the Fourth of July fireworks spectacular.
But getting to wherever you plan to watch the fireworks may be something different all together.
"Make sure you find someplace early," State Trooper Robin Mungo says, "because if the weather is going to be nice, there's going to be a lot of people that are going to be coming into the city."
Rule No. 1 is to plan early where you want to go. There will be some road closures especially as it gets closer to the scheduled 9:30 p.m. fireworks show.
"Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the fireworks, the tunnels are shut down and the traffic is detoured that's coming into from the airport into the Fort Pitt Tunnel – we'll detour that traffic to go around to the West End," Mungo said.
You won't be able to stop on the Fort Pitt Bridge to watch.
And because the Fourth is on a Wednesday this year, a lot of people will have to go work in the morning, so getting home may take a while.
"Be patient at the end because obviously everyone's going to be leaving at the same time," Mungo said.
