Plane Crash Victims 'Extremely Lucky' To Survive
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) - Federal investigators will be looking into many factors to determine the cause of a plane crash in Monroeville Sunday afternoon.
The four-seater plane crashed at the Pittsburgh-Monroeville Airport around 5:30 p.m.
A husband and wife were on their way home to Tennessee after visiting their son in Greensburg.
They said that during takeoff, a gust of wind raised the nose of the plane, which caused it to stall.
The plane hit some brush and fire broke out on the instrument panel.
"As you can see, the plane was fully engulfed," Joe Hibala said. "They walked away from it without a scratch, which was good."
"They were extremely lucky to get out of the plane before it could have burst into flames. They are very lucky to get out," Paul Balonik said.
A timetable for federal investigators to complete their investigation is not known.
