Pittsburghers Trot Their Way To A Guilt-Free Thanksgiving
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It's become an annual tradition, more than 7,000 runners braved the cold on their way to a guilt-free Thanksgiving.
The first motivation is to beat the cold – the faster you run, the quicker you warm up.
The second is to shed a pound or two before you put them back on – the trot, then the turkey.
"We're running so we can eat a lot of food today," said Megan Wood of Columbus, Ohio.
"An extra piece of Pumpkin pie," said Michele Clemments of Houston, Texas.
The trot has grown over the years from a couple of hundred rugged souls to Thursday's river of runners, who went their way through North Shore and downtown streets. Another stunning confirmation that Pittsburgh's become a true running town.
"I think the success, Pittsburgh marathon and the great race," said Paul McComb with PNC YMCA, "the culture in Pittsburgh is changing and it's really fantastic."
All are welcomed, the thoroughbreds, the turkey heads and little guys like a boy named Liam who finished the 5K in just under an hour.
That's the way to do it, but you got to go all out if you want to have turkey.
