Pittsburgh Weather: Flood Watch Canceled For Western Pennsylvania
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A flood watch has been canceled for all of Western Pennsylvania.
Most places can expect to see around 0.75 - 1" of rain. Areal (county-wide) flood watches were set to be in effect for most of W. Pennsylvania from 7:00 a.m. this morning through 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, but the National Weather Service canceled the watch around 5 p.m.
Heavy rainfall could lead to flooding throughout the day on Tuesday and stretching into Tuesday night.
The rain should be heaviest from time of arrival around 7:00 a.m. through around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon with just rain showers expected for our area after that through 8:00 p.m. Lightning detection is showing decent activity on the leading edge of this weather system.
This could pose a danger to kids at the bus stop and those just moving here or there but being outside.
Please remain weather aware. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 50s.
Winds will pick up to 10-15mph this evening, coming from the west northwest. Before then, winds will be out of the southwest at around 5mph.
Looking ahead, we have also issued a 'First Alert' day for Thursday and Friday. There is still a lot of time before this event.
At this time it appears that we should expect to see a wintry mix beginning late Thursday afternoon, with rain and perhaps freezing rain being possible on Friday.
The GFS is still forecasting temperatures on Friday struggling to top 32° but most other data keeps the area well above the freezing mark during the time where precipitation is falling.
The weekend is looking dry with seasonal weather expected both Saturday and Sunday. I have Saturday's high hitting the mid 30s with highs near 40 degrees.
