Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade Marks 100th Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh held its 100th annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday.

A press release sent out on Oct. 28 from the Federation of War Veterans Societies, Inc. of Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh Veterans' Day Parade mentioned that Pittsburgh was one of the first cities to celebrate Veterans Day:

"The purpose of the 100th Anniversary of the Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade is to honor our local veterans, raise awareness of those who serve them, and to salute the men and women currently in service to our country. The Pittsburgh Veteran's Day Parade is the second oldest Veteran's Parade in the country."

The parade began at 10:30 a.m. on Tenth Street at Liberty Avenue, then marched toward Point State Park.

All branches of military service were represented with veterans of several wars marching, including those from World War II.

Road closures and parking bans were put in place.

Liberty Avenue was closed from Grant Street to Commonwealth Place.

Commonwealth Place was shut down from Ft. Pitt to Ft. Duquesne Boulevard.
