Couple Traveling From Pittsburgh To DC On A Bicycle Built For Two
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you have ever ridden from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C., you know how good it feels to get there so you can stretch your legs.
So imagine how two local people will feel when they get there after riding on a tandem bike.
It's 335 miles and they want to do it in a day.
Rebecca Rankin and boyfriend Seth Gernot love to ride their tandem bike.
For the next 24 hours, they better love it, as they attempt to ride the entire Greater Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.
Rankin tells KDKA's Rick Dayton: "Seth and I do adventures on the tandem all the time, but this one will be the biggest, best one yet."
The pair will start here in Pittsburgh and make their way down along the rivers, across to Maryland. They will then go across Maryland to Cumberland and ultimately down to Washington, D.C.
"Basically, that is pedaling 15 miles per hour, and we have a total of 100 minutes off the bike," Gernot said.
Rankin and Gernot have decided to go on the adventurous journey for a cause.
The couple has raised $3,000 to fight global climate change and hope to reach a grand total of $10,000.
