Police Call Off Extensive Search For 2 Men Accused Of Stealing Vehicle
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two suspects remain on the run following an extensive search Tuesday morning near the South Busway in Brookline.
Several police agencies and K-9 units swarmed the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
According to Pittsburgh Police, Zone 3 officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle around 7:05 a.m. near the intersection of West Liberty and Pioneer Avenues. At that point, the two men ran off into the wooded area near the busway. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and started searching.

"Walking through a wooded area, which includes a train trestle and a creek down in there," said Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokesperson Chris Togneri.
Pittsburgh Police, Port Authority Police, and the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office were all part of the search. K-9 units searched the woods as armed officers patrolled the nearby railroad tracks.
"They searched the area pretty exhaustively," Togneri said at the scene. "[They] did not find the suspects."
Police called off the search around 9:30 a.m., a little more than two hours after it began.
"The K-9 was getting exhausted. It's hot and humid out today," Togneri said. "They believe there is good video evidence that could lead to the arrest of these men anyway, so they called off the search."
The morning commute was hardly disturbed. Port Authority crews at the scene said buses experience a two-three minute delay.
At this point, police have not made any arrest, and they have not released a description of the suspects.
"They didn't find them, but they are confident that they will get them," Togneri said.

Police said the car was returned to its owner, and there were no injuries during the search.
