Pittsburgh Police Investigating Procedure After Murder-Suicide
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is investigating itself after a murder-suicide incident that took place New Year's Day.
It started when Ka'Sandra Wade, 33, was found shot to death in Larimer Jan. 1.
After police discovered her body, they were led to an apartment building in the 200-block of North Homewood Avenue, where her boyfriend lived.
Police then engaged in an hours-long standoff with Wade's boyfriend, 51-year-old Anthony Brown, which ended early the next morning when he took his own life.
However, our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report that police were dispatched to Wade's home the day before she was found dead.
Wade called 9-1-1 the day before she was found, but the line was disconnected, the newspaper reports.
Two officers responded to the call, but left after 10 minutes. The officers, Louis Schweitzer and Lance Hoyson, allegedly talked with Brown who said there was not a problem and refused to let them in, according to the newspaper.
The Bureau of Police responded with a statement Saturday night, saying "the Bureau of Police is conducting a homicide and internal investigation into this incident to determine if all Bureau polices and procedures were followed. We are in the early stages of an ongoing investigation, and as such, the Bureau will not answer or provide a statement on the questions below or any media inquiries into this incident."
