PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Perry High School was evacuated on Friday after a student set off a firework, a spokesperson for the district said.

Pittsburgh Public Schools' spokesperson said a student activated a firework, "prompting a swift evacuation of the building by school staff." No one was injured and the student will face disciplinary action.

"The District is steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Maintaining safe and respectful learning environments requires the collective effort of students, staff, and families," Pittsburgh Public Schools said in a statement.

The district also urged parents and guardians to talk to their children "about the importance of adhering to school policies and to ensure that prohibited items, such as fireworks, are not brought to school."

Perry High School is a "student-centered learning community" located on Pittsburgh's North Side.
