Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Home Opener & Preseason Schedule
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins won't have to wait too long to see the Stanley Cup champions back in action.
The regular season will begin at CONSOL Energy Center against the Washington Capitals on Thursday, Oct. 13. Before the game, the Penguins will raise their 2016 Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters.
It has also been announced that the Penguins will be in Montreal for the Canadiens' home opener on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The rest of the regular season schedule will be released on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Details about the team's preseason schedule were also released Monday morning.
According to the Penguins, the team will play two games each against the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks.
The preseason schedule begins on Tuesday, Sept. 27 on the road against the Red Wings and continues the very next night in Chicago.
Their final preseason game will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at home against the Blue Jackets. That game begins at 4 p.m. and will be the sixth annual "Free Game for Kids"
According to a press release from the Penguins, "All 18,000-plus tickets for that afternoon will again be distributed to local youth hockey teams and other youth organizations throughout the region."

- Tuesday, Sept. 27 – at Detroit (7:30 p.m.)
- Wednesday, Sept. 28 – at Chicago (8:30 p.m.)
- Friday, Sept. 30 – Chicago (7 p.m.)
- Sunday, Oct. 2 – at Columbus (4 p.m.)
- Wednesday, Oct. 5 – Detroit (7 p.m.)
- Saturday, Oct. 8 – Columbus (4 p.m.)
