Pittsburgh Native Matthew Driscoll Ready For NCAA Tournament
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - The NCAA Tournament will begin Tuesday, March 14.
One of the 68 participants will be the University of North Florida, champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys are coached by Pittsburgh native Matthew Driscoll, and he told Bob Pompeani that it's been a whirlwind few days.
"It's great, because our university can't get this kind of publicity for really no other reason. We don't have football," Driscoll said.
Driscoll's team finished with a 23-11 record and a 12-2 mark to win the regular season title as well.
"There's not too many teams in the country that won their regular season and the postseason," he said. "Obviously, the win at Purdue (Dec. 6) did a lot for our guys' confidence and did a lot for kind of what we're trying to build here."
Driscoll said that the staff is busy preparing for a variety of opponents they could face in their first game.
"We locked in on about eight teams that we think could be one or two seeds, and we locked in on about six teams we think could be play-in teams. So as a staff, we're trying to be proactive and cover the whole gamut, based on what happens [Sunday]," Driscoll said.
Pompeani raised the possibility of North Florida playing at Consol Energy Center in the tournament.
"Hey, I know one thing, I don't make enough money to buy tickets," Driscoll joked.
