Runners, Spectators Enjoy Pittsburgh Marathon Despite Chilly Temperatures
PITTSBURGH (AP/KDKA) - Jacob Chemtai of Kenya and A.D. Hailemaryam were the men's and women's winners of Sunday's annual Pittsburgh marathon.
Chemtai pulled ahead of fellow Kenyan Betram Keter just before the 23-mile mark and finished the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 25 seconds. Keter finished second with a time of 2:16:33.
Hailemaryam finished the course with a final time of 2:36:19.
Cyrus Korir won the half-marathon with a time of 1:04:13, and Gladys Kipsoi was the women's half-marathon winner with a time of 1:12:08.

Those who were not running, were still enjoying the event despite the chilly weather.
Debbie and Dave Kretz waited to see their daughter Jessica compete.
"This is freezing! She's from Orlando, this is so cold for her, and she's got a tank top on," Debbie Kretz said. "Oh my gosh we're so proud, she's worked so hard for this."
By the time runners reached Shadyside, the sun was warming things up for those cheering from the sidelines.
"The City of Pittsburgh, a lot of people are visiting so we want to show support, it's a great event really shows off our city looks beautiful today," Monica Bolland said.
Runners said they greatly appreciated the efforts of volunteers.
"I love Homewood, the people here are so great," Irene Katref said.
No major medical emergencies were reported during the day's events. The UPMC Pittsburgh Marathon team said that about 131 people were treated for reasons including low-body temperature, cramps, dehydration, and some nausea and vomiting. Half of those people were treated during the race and half were treated at the finish line tent.
