Pittsburgh Girl Shines On Reality Show, "The Voice"
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - "The Voice" is a popular singing talent show where four celebrity coaches are forced to choose their team based on vocal talent alone because they can't see the contestants when the sing, only hear them.
On Tuesday night's episode, a young girl from Pittsburgh, Mia Zanotti - also known as Mia Z, caught the attention of three of the judges with her singing ability.
Mia Z says watching the auditions last night didn't bring back the nerves, but more of an excited feeling of reliving such an amazing moment in her career. She credits her family for giving her a start in music and a chance to audition.
"It all started with my grandma and my grandparents; my mom and my uncle are in my band. I was just playing around, my mom just sorta submitted it," Mia says. "She was like, 'Hey, you got a private audition, so let's take the opportunity, let's go do it."
She says that she saw it as a door opening for her, and from there, she made it past the private auditions to the call backs, and then on to the blinds, which viewers saw Tuesday night. Now, she is on to the battle rounds.
Mia blew the coaches away with her rendition of "The Thrill is Gone." She said the song choice shouldn't have been a surprise; it's the style of music she loves.
"I really love that old school, that blues, but that still kind of modern, kind of keep it more of that modern beat that everybody can get into, that everybody can relate to, and I love that old school sound that pure, ya know, blues, but some funk, some rock, some pop, a little bit of everything," Mia said.
Like her singing style, her music choices vary from current hits to old-school chart toppers. Family is a big part of her music, she says without her grandmother, none of this would have ever been possible.
"She started this for our family, she is the legacy. She brought this to our family and it never left," Mia said.
