Pittsburgh Cyclists Show Support For Hit-And-Run Victim
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- There was a wake in Wilkinsburg for a man who was killed while riding his bike last week.
James Price, 46, of Homewood, was the victim of a hit-and-run early last Wednesday morning on Penn Avenue in the city's Point Breeze section.
Price was described by family and friends as an avid biker who exercised daily to stay in shape.
Pittsburgh Police are still looking for the driver of the car that ran Price down and sped off.
Among those who attended tonight's wake was Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh.
"We're here to support the family and help raise awareness around this tragedy, put an end to hit-and-run crashes," Bricker said. "There's been at least five that we know of in as many months and it's terrible behavior."
Price's uncle, Gaby White, said his nephew loved to ride.
"We hope that from this we can be able to make some change so that it can be safer for more people to be able to ride," White said. "This really was a senseless tragedy."
An eyewitness told police that he saw a white car speeding off in the direction of East Liberty after Price was hit and thrown about six feet through the air.
He estimated the driver was traveling at about 60 miles an hour.
