Suspected Pittsburgh Church Burglar Caught
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police say a suspected church thief didn't stand a chance at Monumental Baptist Church in Pittsburgh's Hill District.
Gerald Dudley, 38, was arrested after police say he broke in through a stained glass window, but surveillance cameras, a security alarm and a Zone 2 police dog stopped him in his tracks.
Pastor Thomas Smith says the crook smashed the window with a fire extinguisher which discharged, leaving a powdery chemical substance all over the inside of the church.
After the alarm sounded and police were dispatched. A K-9 officer tracked the suspect to a basement room.
A trustee at the church tells KDKA's Kym Gable he had $1 in cash in his possession.
Dudley was arrested and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
